What is Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a dynamic medical art that involves the insertion of hair-thin sterile stainless steel needles into acupoints along meridian channels found on the surface of the skin. Acupuncture gently stimulates the body’s internal resources to encourage natural healing and improved immune function.
How does Acupuncture work?
The meridians can be thought of as highways that are distributed throughout the body’s anatomical structures (muscles, fascia, bones etc). Various fluids such as blood, lymph and hormones travel along these highways to irrigate and nourish the surrounding tissues. The ancient Chinese believed that Qi (pronounced chee) or ‘vital life force’ also travels along these highways to provide the energy needed to regulate and maintain the body’s bio mechanisms. When fluids or Qi becomes blocked within the meridians it creates an imbalance that can lead to a variety of health problems. Stimulating specific points along the meridians in order to disperse the blockages mobilizes the body’s natural immune response.
From a western physiological perspective, inserting acupuncture needles into the skin causes the body to respond as if it has undergone some microtrauma. As a result, the nervous, endocrine and immune systems produce a wide range of natural pain relieving substances, anti-inflammatory chemicals, hormones and immune enhancers.
Is it safe?
Yes. ONLY very thin, sterile, stainless steel disposable needles are utilized.
Does it hurt?
No. Most people don’t realize that acupuncture is incredibly RELAXING! Many people fall asleep on the table during the treatment. Acupuncture really helps to get us out of our heads and relax into our bodies.
